Affordable Energy Coalition Welcomes FERC Chairman McIntyre,
Urges Power Market Cost Efficiencies During His Tenure

Washington, D.C., December 7, 2017 – Today, the Affordable Energy Coalition (AEC) released the following statement in response to the swearing in of Kevin McIntyre as the new Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC):

“With the FERC’s decision due next week on the Department of Energy grid proposal, Chairman McIntyre joins the Commission at a critical moment in the agency’s history, which will determine the affordability of electricity for tens of millions of American consumers,” said Michael Steel, a spokesman for AEC. “We urge Chairman McIntyre and his fellow commissioners to reject this harmful proposal.”

For over two decades, competition in the wholesale electricity market has kept energy affordable for millions of American families and businesses. The Department of Energy proposal would undermine competitive markets, raising prices for consumers while offering no real improvement to grid reliability. It’s critical that FERC rejects this proposal and protects 65 million Americans from electricity price increases.

The AEC represents a diverse group of organizations, businesses, and communities focused on keeping energy affordable for American consumers.
